Jesus’ Touch

Updated: May 23, 2021

“One day, while Jesus was in a certain city, he came upon a man covered with leprous sores. When the man recognized Jesus, he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet and begged to be healed, saying, “If you were willing, you could completely heal me.””

“Jesus reached out and touched him and said, “Of course I am willing to heal you, and now you will be healed.” Instantly, the leprous sores were healed, and his skin became smooth. Jesus said, “Tell no one what has happened, but go to the temple priests and show them you’ve been healed. And to show that you are purified, make an offering for your cleansing, just as Moses commanded. You will become a living testimony to them!”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:12-14‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Let’s read through the verses a couple of times. Given the fact that the man was covered with leprous sores (other translations say , “a man full of leprosy”), we can determine, he had suffered for sometime with this disease

We also know, people with leprosy are isolated from others because the disease is contagious.

So, this man had probably not been touched in years. I am certain Jesus could have healed this man without touching him, but He reached out and touched (with his physical human hand) the diseased man. He came to this man with His physical presence and doing much more with that touch than taking away the sores. He unified Himself with the man, extending His worthiness.

Let’s take a look at the Greek word for ‘touch’ used in verse 13.

The word used is ‘Haptomai’, it means: to attach oneself to, to bind, connect.

Now, let’s go back and re-read the verses with this definition in our hearts. What did Jesus really do for the leprous man?

Our God attaches Himself to us. We are ONE with God (I Corinthians 6:17). We have a divine identity.

Whew, lets mediate on our oneness this week.
